Exterior Economy Foamtec Shutters: Measuring

Choosing your shutter size

Measure your windows carefully. Pay special attention to the exact fit you desire. In most cases, the height that is most appropriate is from the top of the window opening to the bottom of the window opening. In choosing the width of your shutters, take into consideration the width of the window and the distance that they are spaced apart. Generally, it is best to find a single width that works for all your windows.

Most homes have windows in many different sizes. Shutter Shack's multiple widths and lengths allow you to custom fit virtually any window with the perfect size and style of shutter for your home.

Exterior Economy Foamtec Shutters: Installing

Installing your Foamtec Shutters

Shutters should be installed over a flat, clean, dry solid surface. There should always be solid vertical backing installed in the structure to attach the mechanical fasteners to. Apply a continuos bead of ureathane based adhesive around the edge of the shutter (approximately 1" from the edge), and then apply a cross-hatched pattern of adhesive in the field of the shutter.

Along the border of the shutter (approximately 1" from the edge) install mechanical fasteners at an upward angle near the corners and approximately every 12"-16" on center depending on the size and shape, penetrating a minimum of 1" into solid backing. Screw holes should be filled with a premium exterior wood filler or Bondo. Caulk around all edges.

Recommended Adhesives:

  • PL - Polyurethane Premium Contruction Adhesive
  • Rainbuster 900 Polycarbonate Sealant/Adhesive

Recommended Caulking:

  • Polyseamseal White Painters Caulk

Recommended Fasteners:

  • Non-Corrosive Coarse Threaded Screws
